Thank you for your interest in our Interventional Cardiology Fellowship here at Beth Israel Medical Center. The
fourth year interventional cardiology fellowship is intended to provide advanced training for cardiology fellows
who have completed their training at an accredited three-year cardiology fellowship program in the United States
or abroad. It is expected that each fellow will participate and/or have primary operator experience in a minimum
of 300 coronary interventions during the course of the fellowship and maximum of 600 coronary interventions.
Advanced training is also provided on peripheral stents and angiography, Rotablator atherectomy, Angiojet
thrombectomy, intravascular ultrasound, physiologic assessment of lesions using Doppler and pressure measurement
techniques, acute MI management and interventions and distal protection techniques are also taught.

The purpose of this program is to train the fellows
- To understand the array of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures available in the modern adult cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
- To understand the specific diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and how they are specifically applied in the diagnosis and treatment of the range of cardiovascular disease.
- To understand the limitations and potential risks associated with the use of the various procedures available in the Catheterization Laboratory, and how to manage critically ill patients and complications during, and after invasive and interventional procedures.
- In both the acute and long-term and post-procedure management and follow-up of patients who have had diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- To understand the place of research in the Catheterization Laboratory in the development of new procedures, techniques, devices and pharmacological regimens used to optimize outcomes.
- To interpret and evaluate the angiographic and hemodynamic data generated by invasive and interventional procedures and apply them to clinical decision making.
- " To integrate the clinical presentation, physical examination, physiologic, hemodynamic, and angiographic data in making diagnosis and treatment plans for the various adult clinical cardiovascular conditions.

Trainee Participation in Research
Participation in clinical research by trainees is an integral component of achieving competence in this rapidly
evolving field. The interventional cardiology training program has an active clinical research program and its
trainees are expected to be directly involved in the conduct of research.
